BOROUGH OF MADISON ANNOUNCES CHANGE IN FIRE PROTECTION SERVICES

MADISON BOROUGH, WESTMORELAND COUNTY, PA — September 8, 2026 — The Borough of Madison is announcing a change in the fire protection services provided to the residents and businesses of Madison Borough.

 

After careful consideration, the Madison Borough Council has determined that Madison & Vicinity Fire Company will no longer serve as the Borough's designated fire protection provider.

 

Effective September 8,  2026, Sewicldey Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 will serve as the primary fire protection provider for Madison Borough.

 

This decision was made by Madison Borough Council as part of its responsibility to ensure that residents, businesses, and property owners continue to have reliable fire protection and emergency response services.

The Borough recognizes and appreciates the history and service that Madison & Vicinity Fire company has provided to the community over the years. The change in fire protection services is a decision made by the Borough and should not be interpreted as a statement against the individual members who have served the community.

 

The Borough's priority throughout this process is to maintain continuous and dependable fire protection coverage for Madison Borough and to ensure that emergency calls continue to receive an appropriate response.

 

Residents should continue to call 911 for all fire and other emergencies. Emergency dispatch procedures will be updated as necessary to reflect the Borough's new primary fire protection provider.

 

The Borough will work with Sewickley Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 , Westmoreland county emergency communications, and other appropriate agencies to ensure an orderly transition.

 

The Borough will not comment on individual personnel matters or internal matters involving the former fire company. Questions concerning the Borough's decision may be directed to Madison Borough Council through the Borough's official channels.
